When pain persists, look for the root cause
Chronic pain is pain that outlasts normal healing time. For many conditions, that means longer than three months. Unresolved pain represents either a root cause that hasn't been corrected, or a pain cycle from the brain that needs to be interrupted.
Neurologic conditions & chronic pain
Chronic pain is generally recognized as pain persisting longer than normal healing time. For many conditions, that means longer than three months. Unresolved pain represents either a root cause which has not been corrected, or a pain cycle from the brain which needs to be interrupted.
Our mission is to help you determine the cause of your pain or neurologic dysfunction, and correct it where we can.

Conditions that can respond to brain-based care
- Generalized chronic pain
- Changes in how the brain controls muscles and interprets pain, often appearing in multiple areas, frequently affecting one side of the body more than the other.
- Chronic neck pain
- When neck pain persists beyond a few weeks, there is usually an underlying cause that should be assessed by a specialized NUCCA doctor.
- Brain fog
- Lack of mental clarity, confusion, and slower processing, commonly noted in post-concussion syndrome, but also experienced without one. The brain must have proper communication and drainage (the glymphatic system) to process information correctly.
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Excruciating facial nerve pain from compression or inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, which originates in the brainstem at the craniocervical junction.
- Chronic lower back pain & sciatica
- The low back is susceptible to injury and pain when muscles are imbalanced between the right and left sides of the body. Sciatica, buttock or leg pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness, signals an underlying condition.
- Fibromyalgia
- Widespread musculoskeletal pain with fatigue, sleep, memory, and mood issues. Research suggests fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting how the brain processes pain signals.
- Recurring injuries
- When the body isn't functioning properly, small movements can cause big problems, and the same injury keeps coming back, often worse than the first time.
A brain-based approach
How does NUCCA help?
Interference at the head and neck can affect how your brain controls your muscles and interprets pain. The upper third of your neck functions like a relay station for brain communication, and your postural muscles are controlled by an area of your brain nestled right at the base of your skull.
When an injury misaligns the head and neck, a cascade follows:
- A righting reflex keeps your eyes level with the horizon, so the rest of the body torques and twists underneath to compensate.
- Muscles become chronically imbalanced, because inflammation and irritation near the brainstem interfere with signaling between your brain and body.
- These imbalances can produce neurologic dysfunction, from chronic back pain to brain fog or trigeminal neuralgia, and explain why many people suffer recurring injuries and recurring pain.
Our specialized care will
- Help restore proper nervous system function
- Improve muscle balance throughout your entire body
- Decrease the unrelenting pain associated with craniocervical junction misalignments
A patient’s story
Google review“On Sept 10, 2018 I was in a car accident that left me with a concussion, a traumatic brain injury. I had all the classic signs: light sensitivity, balance issues, fatigue, memory issues, dizziness, anxiety, panic attacks, brain fog, and more. I quickly realized that I would need a team to help me heal wholly. Dr Radwanski was key to my recovery. She always explained things to me and was very mindful of how I was feeling. She listened, was compassionate and gave me amazing advice and referrals. I always felt better after her adjustments. I honestly feel that Dr RAD made a huge difference in my recovery!! If it wasn't for her, I am not sure I would have fully recovered. She is the BEST!”
