Relief for chronic headaches and migraine, at the root

Migraines can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, often accompanied by nausea and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. When the source is a misalignment at the craniocervical junction, treating symptoms alone rarely lasts.

What are migraines?

Migraines can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually just on one side of the head. They're often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Additional symptoms of chronic migraine

  • Moderate to severe pain, usually confined to one side of the head
  • Severe, throbbing, pulsing pain
  • Increased pain during physical activity or when straining
  • Nausea, sometimes including vomiting
  • Sensitivity to light and sound, often relieved only by lying quietly in a darkened room
  • Inability to perform regular activities due to pain
  • Less commonly: vestibular and balance dysfunction, sweating, temperature changes, stomach ache, and diarrhea

Other common types of headaches

Tension headaches
Tightness or pressure around the forehead or the back of the head and neck. The most common type of headache, lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to a few days.
Cervicogenic headaches
Referred pain from the bones, muscles, and joints of the head and neck, usually accompanied by neck and shoulder pain, often felt on one side of the head and face, referring to the forehead and over one eye.
Post-concussion headaches
Caused by changes in the head and neck after a trauma, usually accompanied by dizziness, brain fog, light sensitivity, or fatigue. These can self-resolve, but often last beyond one month following a concussion.

A brain-based approach

How does NUCCA help?

The lower two-thirds of your neck is fairly stable, but the upper third, the craniocervical junction, is far more mobile and complex, and has major influence on brain communication: almost all brain signals pass through it to the rest of the body.

Any injury, even a minor fall or accident from years ago, can damage the ligaments (the “glue”) that support your neck alignment, leaving the head and neck slightly misaligned.

  1. When the top two bones in the spine misalign, blood and cerebrospinal fluid don't flow smoothly between brain and body. The twisted pathway froths like a river around a curve, causing inflammation that can lead to headache and brain fog.
  2. The muscles become imbalanced, affecting signals from the muscles back to the brain. The suboccipital muscles, right where your head meets your neck, become most imbalanced, causing chronic pain or tension at the base of the skull.
  3. The imbalance causes further neck stiffness and pain. Inflammation near the brainstem interferes with signaling between your brain and body, so the body remains imbalanced until a specific correction is obtained.

Our specialized care will

  • Improve blood flow between the brain and body
  • Improve brain-body balance and communication to decrease pain
  • Balance muscle tone

A patient’s story

Google review

To say I was skeptical would be an understatement, however Dr. Radwanski is a miracle worker. I was living with severe neck pain for YEARS. Debilitating pain. I was desperate so I drove 3 hours each way because she's the only NUCCA certified doctor anywhere "near" me. I don't know how she did it but she literally cured me of migraines and neck pain. Something I could never even imagine if I tried. I tell everyone about her. The drive is worth it. If she thinks she can help you (and she will tell you if she doesn't) it is WORTH IT. Life without this pain is something I could've never imagined. Thank you for changing my life!!!
